Someone Else’s Christmas is from an ongoing series of ‘found photo’ books. Atkinson says he often buy 35mm cameras from charity shops if they contain film, then have the film processed. If there are enough images to create a book or narrative, he does. Authorship and the nature of the photographs are obvious questions. Atkinson doesn’t know whether the photographer is alive or dead, whether the camera was donated as a gesture of good will or cleared out of hatred. ‘It’s exciting to know I’m the first person to see the images that someone, possibly many years ago, has taken.’

Craig Atkinson is a UK based photographer/artist, founder of Café Royal Books and lecturer in UCLan. His work is generally concerned with various aspects of the urban or man-made environment, usually Brutalist. Atkinson’s work has been collected by MoMa, The Tate and The V&A, as well as many other international public, private and educational libraries, galleries and museums.
