The opening event of the Festival, David Lynch: Small Stories / Small Stories. The ambience of Lynch’s unique exhibition is inspired by the invisibility of invisible relationships, the unraveling of unspeakable feelings, and the fulfillment of the liberated fantasy. Lynch’s entire work, including this series, was influenced by the American tradition of surrealism, esoteric, anxiety, and artistic and popular display of violence – the cultic drawing from Norman Rockwell to today’s thriller films.
Lynch’s surreal images are based on the reinterpretation of photo montage, portraits and reproductions. From these, spatial-temporal dimensions are created that are assembled into a universe that is well known from the master’s films. Small Stories is a psychedelic journey beyond reality in the world of emotion, humor, playfulness and uneasiness, while exploring memories and wounds. Like his film work, his images are dominated by the dream, and the core strength of his poetry is the unity between the unconscious and the reality. In 2014, the series was co-organized by Maison Européenne de la Photographie and Item gallery. Curator: Klara Szarka photo historian.
The exhibition is open from 1 March to 2 June 2019. During this time, the Műcsarnok (Art Hall) is being created with a wide variety of programs and inviting guides to the exhibition.
