Borges writes in one of his essays or stories (there’s no hard line there) that waking life is a book read in sequence, but that dreams are scenes picked at random; it’s prose vs. poetry, walking vs. flying. Photographer Paul Schiek apparently leads an artistically charmed airborne life, finding grab-shot mystery and beauty everywhere. With his close-ups of people involved in ambiguous activities, his odd croppings, with their large expanses of empty space, and his nocturnal scenarios illuminated by flash, and sometimes overexposed and vignetted, he creates a blend of street photography and dream theater.
